BYE, BYE LOS ANGELES...

Hello for the last time from Los Angeles!

Today Daniel and Miss Fung took me to the magic kingdom, the happiest place on earth, the home of Mickey Mouse... in other words, DISNEYLAND! It was cloudy when we got there, but the sun came out later.  Daniel had wanted to go to ride the Indiana Jones ride.  He is tall enough now and wanted to try it out.  It was scary and I closed my eyes most of the time.  Here are some pictures and video from our day.  It was a nice way to end my visit to Los Angeles.  I look forward to going back home again to Holly.

See you in a few days,
Flat Holly

Here we are at the entrance of Disneyland.
That's Sleeping Beauty's castle behind me!
There's a statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.
Daniel wants to be Indiana Jones!

Aladdin and Jasmine!

This is the center of Disneyland.
We are going to help Buzz Lightyear fight bad guys!

It's Pluto!

WEDDING!

Hey Ms. Bratton's Class!

Today I went to a wedding in Palos Verde! It's a really nice little town near the coast. It took Miss Fung and her friends almost an hour to get there.  Here are some pictures from my first wedding!  Tomorrow is my last day and Miss Fung said that I could spend it with her and Daniel. It's Mother's Day, so I am hoping that Daniel does something really nice and fun for his mommy.

See you soon,
Flat Holly

PS: Ethan and the other kids were very excited that they would get their own Flat Stanleys soon!

This pretty lady is Mrs. Mc. She teaches 3rd grade and she just got married to the guy next to her! She's very happy!
Here is the bride and groom. The groom is a coordinator at Miss Fung's school and the bride use to be the kindergarten TA, but she left, so we are sad... but happy that she got married to such a great guy! Isn't her dress pretty!
Here I am posing with the wonderful teachers + a new husband and baby!
I wanted some cake, but was told I had to wait until the bride and groom were ready to cut it. By that time I had fallen asleep. It looked delicious.

This is Ms. D. She likes to dance and she is a lot of fun!  I want to be like her when I grow up!

Ice Cream!!!

After our visit to the Natural History Museum, Miss Fung bought us each an ice cream from the ice cream cart. There was a man just standing there with all kinds of ice cream! We each got to choose one. I am sharing a rainbow pop with my friend Haley.  It was kind of a goodbye present. The class is sending me back this weekend and all said their goodbyes. I think ice cream is a good way to end my visit, don't you?

See you real soon,
Flat Holly

A Visit to the Natural History Museum!

Dear Ms. Bratton's Class,

I got to go with the boys and girls to the Natural History Museum today. (www.nhm.org) We went to the Discovery Center to explore things. We saw animals, rocks, and even got to dig up dinosaur bones too! The students are collecting rocks for the science fair next week, so we went to look at the rock collection at the museum. Here are some pictures and video from my day there.

Love,
Flat Holly

Can you see the dinosaurs behind us? There is a T-Rex and a Stegosaurus.

Here are some rocks and minerals. Aitza is showing them to me.

A grizzly bear!!! Ugh!
Did you know that you can hear the ocean in a shell???
There is a clown fish like Nemo in the tank behind me!

Extreme Creatures!

Hello Boys and Girls,

Today we made extreme creatures with Dr. Gretchen for the California Science Center. We learned that animals adapt to their environment. Here are some pictures of the activity.

FRIDAY IN ROOM 3

Hello Ms. Bratton's Class and Holly!

It's finally Friday! Miss Fung loves Fridays!  We had a busy day today. The students did observations on potatoes. They made bubble maps to describe potatoes and conducted surveys using tree maps to find out what was their favorite ways to eat potatoes.  The best part was that we made baked french fried potatoes! They were yummy!  Miss Fung said she would send me back home next week. She wanted the boys and girls to have time to say goodbye. They have been really nice to me. Today Ethan asked if he could make a flat Holly, but a boy one instead of a girl. Could you ask Ms. Bratton to send Room 3 the pattern so they can all make flat Stanleys? Well it's time to go.
See you soon!
Love,
Flat Holly
Drawing and writing with the girls. Justin drew a picture of me today for his potato bubble map. I didn't think I looked like a potato!

Those were some yummy baked fries!

Working Out in LA

Hello from Pasadena!

Today we went for a walk around the Rose Bowl.  We walked for over 3 miles!  It was a nice day, so Miss Fung thought I would enjoy the fresh air.  The Rose Bowl is where UCLA (USC's rival) plays football during the season.  It is also where they play the big Rose Bowl game on New Years Day.  The Rose Bowl is in Pasadena and Pasadena is where the Rose Parade takes place every New Years Day. Have you seen the parade on TV before? There are flowers everywhere!

Miss Fung is glad it's Friday tomorrow.
It's her favorite day!
Talk to you again soon,

Flat Holly

THEY FORGOT ME!

Hey Holly and Ms. Bratton's Class,

Today Room 3 went on a field trip to USC across the street. They have a great football team there!  The students went to hear a story called Zhakanaka, the word. The sad thing is that they FORGOT me!  I stayed back and cried, but when they got back they said they were sorry and they would make it up to me.  They showed me pictures so that I would feel like I was there too.  Maybe tomorrow I will get to go somewhere.

Hope you are having fun!
We are learning about Community Workers right now.

SPENDING THE WEEKEND IN LOS ANGELES...

Hello Boys and Girls,

How was your weekend? I had a very busy weekend in Los Angeles. I spent Saturday at the dentist office (Miss Fung's son, Daniel, had an appointment). Then I went with Miss Fung to a PTA meeting at school. She stayed later to help a new teacher do her work. I hung out with her son Daniel outside on the playground. When we got home she was too tired so we went out to dinner instead. The next day we went to Hollywood to sing along with the Little Mermaid! It was awesome! I got you some Little Mermaid tatoos Holly. Okay, gotta go now. Enjoy my pictures. Miss Fung hopes to post some video of the day too.

Miss you,
Flat Holly

Sitting at the dentist office, waiting with Daniel. He had a cavity to take care of.
For dinner, we had spaghetti with butter sauce. Daniel didn't like the apple sauce, so I ate it. His mommy let us order Sprite as a special treat. We had to have milk the rest of the time.
Here we are in Hollywood! Miko joined us for the day. Here we are by Donald Duck's star. It's on the Walk of Fame where there are a lot of stars with names of famous people on them. I didn't know too many of them, but I know Donald Duck!
We are going to see the Little Mermaid at the El Capitan Theater! It's a sing-a-long and the audience gets to sing with the movie.
Here we are right before the movie began. Alexandra came too. That's Miss Fung, my guardian in Los Angeles in the middle. Daniel didn't want to be in the picture, but he smiled anyway. After the show we are going to get ice cream!

SHOW AND TELL

Fridays are Share Day in Room 3. The students get to bring one item to share. Today the kids let me sit with them while they shared because I did not bring anything with me from North Carolina. The class all got to share me!

This is Madelyn sharing her item today. I like Madelyn, she is nice.

POETRY JAM!

Hello Ms. Bratton's Class and Holly!

Today we had a Poetry Jam with the 4th Graders. Our class and Ms. Johnson's class recited poetry for our parents and classmates. It was great! I was a little nervous, but Jayda told me that I could stand with her when she recited her poem. She had her buddy hold me. We did a great job!

After Poetry Jam, we had snacks! My friends got me some cookies and juice. They are really nice people.
Here is Jayda holding me during snack time. It was a great day!

PUMPKIN JACK!

Dear Holly,

Today my friends in Room 3 took me to the school's garden.  Back in October, they carved a pumpkin for Halloween. They named him Pumpkin Jack, like the book Pumpkin Jack.  When Pumpkin Jack started to rot, they put him in the planter. Guess what happened?  Pumpkin Jack's seeds started to sprout and now there are pumpkin flowers and baby pumpkins growing under the flowers! Can you see the tiny, green pumpkin growing under the flower? Miss Fung hopes that they will be able to grow at least one pumpkin. The insects really like to eat them.  Tomorrow the class and their Reading Buddies are having a Poetry Jam. I am trying to learn a poem too so that I can participate!

Talk to you later,
Flat Holly

LUNCH!

We are having cheese pizza, an apple, and chocolate milk.
I didn't have a lunch ticket, so the girls shared their lunch with me.

My Day at Alexander Science Center School...

Dear Holly,
I spent my first day at school in Room 3.  They were celebrating Earth Day.  To help keep the earth clean, they decided to go out and pick up trash around their school. Then we walked outside of the school to the park. It was pretty exciting because Exposition Park is located in the middle of Los Angeles across the street from a big college (USC). Here are some pictures from the pick up in the park.

Love,
Flat Holly
We are getting ready to clean the school yard!
I found a soda can on the ground and put it in the recycling bag.
Miko shows me the famous "Rose Garden" in Exposition Park.
My new friends and I take a picture in the Rose Garden. That's the Natural History Museum behind us.
Haley and Destiny take me to lunch after working hard!

My First Day in LA!

4-22-08

Dear Holly,

After a few days in the US postal system, I finally made it to Los Angeles, California!  The lady that opened your letter took me to spend the day at her school.  She is a kindergarten teacher and thought that it would be fun for her students to show me around.  It was a busy day! The kids were celebrating Earth Day. I will post pictures of my day in Room 3 tomorrow.  Hope you are having fun. Miss you!

Love,
Flat Holly... tired, but happy to be out of that tight envelope
